I remember the day like it was yesterday.

My 7 year old and I were playing at the park and we were running
around, nothing crazy and after a while I decided to sit and rest..

Not because I was tired just because I wanted a break,

And what she told me absolutely floored me.

She said "Daddy if you're tired maybe you should join bootcamp"
and I said "Baby girl I teach bootcamp." Her response was "So why
did you gain so much weight?"

I thought "REALLY"...nahhhh

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was being lectured for
being overweight... by a 7 year old..well I guess I tought here well.

The weird thing is... I didn't do anything serious. I went to the
gym a few times..but No Real commitment.

And then The Pictures...Oh Pictures don't lie. I started seeing the
weight..PILE ON!

But Still No Action Taken

Holiday Calorie Tip #1

Hi...

I know you know this.

You know you know this.


Fail to plan, plan to fail.

You can't just HOPE you're going to behave yourself at holiday parties. You can't just do the same old things you've been doing. You can't just miss breakfast. have a light lunch and then go to a party filled with temptation and not go a little insane on the cheese platter ;-)

You have to plan your meals.

You have to plan your workouts.

You have to set your goals in stone.

You don't want to be the person that comes out of the holidays 5 to 10 pounds heavier, do you?

If you don't plan your strategy from preventing it, well, you can PLAN on getting some new clothes that fit your new size.

This is far from doom and gloom. You can still enjoy your favorite foods at parties. You can still have a great time.

But what you can't do is just free-for-all it and stuff your face with everything put in front of you. You know that.


Tell you what: Plan on taking a nice 30 minute walk this weekend and do some solid thinking about what your plan will be. And when you get back home, put it on paper and commit to it. Remember you don't have to wait till January, NOW is a good time to get started on your fitness goals.

And think about how great you'll feel about yourself when January comes after you've followed your plan. Oh, and be sure to reward yourself to by doing something special for yourself.

Fruit vs. Candy

Question of the WEEK?

Does the sugar in fruit affect the body the same way sugar in candy does? Is eating fruit counterproductive to obtaining low levels of body fat?

Gratitude and Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

It's been a great year here at Results4Sure and All The South Florida Fitness bootcamps. And I'm very grateful for you being a part of that success. TODAY being Thanksgiving I want to make sure I'm showing you how grateful I am.

Now, besides that, I also want to remind you one thing you do NOT want to do on Today is skip meals so you can stuff yourself with one big one. That's a no-no.

Consumption Of Omega 6 Fatty Acids May Increase Your Risk of Inflammatory Diseases

Many of us know about about the benefit of Omega 3 fatty acids and EPA and DHA. Thousands of scientific studies have shown us the multiple ways Omega 3 fatty acids benefit us not only in our cardiovascular health, but improving our metabolism, boosting our immune system and reducing the risk of certain diseases.

Eat Yourself Thin
Pasta Chicken(Serves Two)
2 skinless, boneless chicken breasts1/2 can condensed cream of mushroom soup1 cup and 2 tablespoons water1/2 package frozen mixed vegetables, thawed1 cup rotini pasta
1. In a skillet, brown the chicken in oil over medium low heat until cooked through.
2. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside. Add the soup, water and vegetables. Heat to a boil.
3. Add uncooked pasta to soup mixture in skillet (the pasta cooks right in the soup!). Stir all together and cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring often.
4. Add cooked chicken and cook another 5 minutes or until pasta is done, stirring often.
5. Serve.

What Are Your 4 Pounds Made Of

I don’t know what you had for lunch today, but I had 18 apples.

What do you think of that? You probably think I’m a glutton and have the GI tract of a gorilla.

But check this – a typical fast food value meal has the same amount of calories as 18 apples. 18! So I wanted to see what would happen if I downed the same amount of calories from apples.

Not pretty.

Yet I’ve had buddies knock back 2 value meals while watching Monday Night Football. And no, I haven’t seen any of them go through a bag of red delicious by the 4th quarter.

What does this tell me? Well, it tells me that Mother Nature has got your back.



Remember:

Real food regulates appetite – so you don’t overeat
Real food controls blood sugar/insulin – so you can avoid energy swings and diabetes
Real food provides the best nutrition – so you can remain healthy for life
Real food has a sane amount of energy – so that you can’t accidentally overeat
Real food has a longstanding relationship with our body – so that our bodies know what to do with it
Energy density
This leads me to the world of energy density. Are you familiar with it? It’s the amount of energy (calories) per unit of food. Let me explain.


This is 200 calories of melon. This is a lot of melon. This is 200 calories of cheese. This isn’t very much cheese.

This is 200 calories of celery. Good luck eating this. This is 200 calories of a candy bar. Good luck NOT eating this.

Seeing a trend? It’s hard to rack up excess energy (calories) from whole, real, calorie-dilute foods.

Food poundage
Interestingly, research shows that most humans eat around 3-5 pounds of food per day. Indeed, as we approach 4 pounds of food intake for the day, most of us are feeling pretty satisfied.

Now, this can be 4 pounds of celery. Or it can be 4 pounds of candy bars. It’s not the food or calorie content that matters. It’s the volume/poundage that counts. And obviously, there are some big nutrient differences between celery and candy bars, right?

Now, let’s take some extreme examples of this…

4 pounds of raw veggies will provide 400 calories
4 pounds of raw fruits will provide 1000 calories
4 pounds of cooked whole grains/legumes provides 1600 calories
4 pounds of nuts/seeds provides about 10,000 calories
4 pounds of Lucky Charms, Pop Tarts, Cheese provides about 10,000 calories
Note: I’m showing calories only as a measurement unit to help illustrate a point. Don’t get wrapped up in the numbers.

People that struggle with body fat management tend to fill up on energy dense, processed foods. This means stored energy for later.

Translation: Fatness.

If we eat 4 pounds of energy-controlled, whole, real food – we get lots of nutrition with a calorie count that our body can handle.

What’s our poundage portion?
Most people in the U.S. are consuming (on average) the following amounts of food each day:

2.0 pounds of meat, dairy and eggs

1.5 pounds fruits and veggies

0.5 pound grains

0.5 pounds added sugars, fats and oils

= 4.5 pounds

= about 3,700 calories per day

What if we switched this around?

2.5 pounds of fruits and veggies

1.0 pounds of grains and legumes

0.3 pounds nuts/seeds

0.3 pounds meat, dairy and eggs

0.1 pounds added sugars, fats and oils

= 4.2 pounds

= about 2,075 calories per day (this isn’t really that much, especially if you’re physically active.)

Putting it to the test
I’m curious: what does a day of my food weigh?



How much my day of food weighs = 3.7 pounds

Foods – Clockwise, starting in upper right

2 lentil burgers, steamed broccoli

Peaches & blueberries

Raw buckwheat granola with hempseeds and flax

Roasted garbanzos & goji berries

Sprouted grain bread with peanut butter

Lettuce & kale

Celery, carrots, zucchini

Note: I was surprised it didn’t weigh more. The actual food weighs less than 3.7 pounds, as the food containers contribute to the total weight. I left out condiments like salad dressing and mustard.

Oh, and this was just a random day of eating. Some days I eat more, some days less.

What have we learned today?
If we prioritize and eat nutritious, real, controlled energy foods – there isn’t much room left for the energy dense, fake foods. You only have about 3-5 pounds to work with each day.

So… think about it…what are your 4 pounds made up of?

Can Miss Universe Finish A 300?

Happy Monday...

Every so often I throw in A 300 into our Boot Camps..

Don't know what A 300 is...Remember the movie The 300...well the guys who were training the actors came up with a CRAZY workout that had 300 reps and funny enough called it the 300...

Well sometimes I use my version of that at Camp...

Before I go over what's involved...sometimes people ask if it's tough? Sometime my campers wonder if they are getting a lot of work in?

Well...let's compare

This is a "traditional" Gym workout"

5-10 minute warm up

3-4 exercises for a major muscle group..lets say legs:
Squats- 3 sets- 15 reps, 12 reps, 10 reps (37 total reps)
Leg Ext. 3 sets- 15 reps, 12 reps, 10 reps (37 total reps)
Leg Curls 3 sets- 15 reps, 12 reps, 10 reps (37 total reps)

2-3 exercise for a smaller muscle group..lets say triceps:
Cable Pushdows 15 reps, 12 reps, 10 reps (37 total reps)
Dumbbell Kickbacks 15 reps, 12 reps, 10 reps (37 total reps)

Maybe some abs
Crunches 15 reps, 12 reps, 10 reps (37 total reps)

Not A Bad Workout...you can get that in any magazine

So this would take someone an hour or an hour and a half to finish (with all that pausing in between sets) and they get 222 TOTAL reps...

What do you get at Boot Camp in less than 45 minutes when we do a 300?

The first Set:
Push ups 50 reps
Squats 50 reps
Dips 50 reps
Step Ups 50 reps
Leg Raises 50 Reps
Jumping Jacks 50 reps

That's 300 Reps in the FIRST Set...back to back with out stopping and I time you to see how long it takes you to do it...

WAIT!!!!

We do 2 more sets like that...that's 900 Reps...in less than 45 minutes...

Eat a Cheese burger for Fat Loss


A 4oz Cheeseburger has 300 calories, 12.0g of fat and 33.0g of carbs in each sandwich...
Now let's look at some facts we already know:
Food energy is the amount of energy in food that is available through digestion.
Each food item has a specific metabolizable energy intake (MEI). Normally this value is obtained by multiplying the total amount of energy contained in a food item by 85%, which is the typical amount of energy actually obtained by a human after the digestive processes have been completed.
So everything we eat can be burned
Your body has 2 fuel systems, so to speak. There is Aerobic and Anaerobic.
"Now, the Aerobic system uses oxygen to burn fuel, and the Anaerobic system doesn't. But one does not replace the other! What happens is you start out by burning fuel with your Aerobic energy system, and once you go past the point where there is enough oxygen in your system to provide Aerobic energy to your muscles, your Anaerobic system kicks in. Think of this as your SUPRA-AEROBIC zone."
To get there, you need to get your heart rate up past what is typically referred to as the 'Target Heart Rate Zone' using common aerobics lingo. You should use a Heart Rate Monitor to measure yourself while doing this program.
So for this we need FOOD!!!
NEXT:
Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) is a measurably increased rate of oxygen intake following strenuous activity intended to erase the body's "oxygen debt."
In recovery oxygen (EPOC) is used in the processes that restore the body to a resting state and adapt it to the exercise just performed. These include: hormone balancing, replenishment of fuel stores, cellular repair, innervation, and anabolism.

EPOC is accompanied by an elevated consumption of fuel. In response to exercise, fat stores are broken down and free fatty acids (FFA) are released into the blood.
The EPOC effect is greatest soon after the exercise is completed and decays to a lesser level over time. One experiment found EPOC increasing metabolic rate to an excess level that decays to 13% 3 hours after exercise, and 4% after 16 hours. Another study, specifically designed to test if the effect existed for more than 16 hours, conducted tests for 48 hours after the conclusion of the exercise and found measurable effect existed up to the 38 hour post-exercise measurement.
So if WE PUSH...We will burn and burn and Burn....
So how much can we burn if we push????
Think about what you ate this morning.
Maybe it was a bagel, or a bowl of cereal to go along with that cup of coffee.
Now compare that to what Olympic gold medalist and swimming sensation Michael Phelps eats in the morning, and you might feel a little malnourished:
— three fried egg sandwiches with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions, and mayo
— one five-egg omelets
— a bowl of grits
— three slices of French toast with powdered sugar
— three chocolate chip pancakes
— two cups of coffee
For lunch, Phelps drinks 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks, one pound of pasta with tomato sauce and two large ham and cheese sandwiches (with mayo) on white bread.

For dinner, Phelps’ meal consists of six to eight slices of pizza, another pound of pasta with tomato sauce, and 1,000 calories of energy drinks.
Do you need to do this?
Not unless you are training as hard as he is...
What's the point?
Stop trying to starve your self...you need to eat in order for your body to burn...and you need to be ACTIVE in order to Burn some more...
You can gain a lot of weight by skipping breakfat, having a salad for lunch, and a "lean" frozen dinner if you are not active...
The days of endless hours of long, slow, and boring cardio are a thing of the past. If you are looking for crazy results in a short amount time, high-intensity interval training is the only way to go.

It rained our first day

We worked right through it..



Saturday in Miami Lakes it rained 95% of the time we worked right through that...



I remeber watching a tropical storm aproaching as we wrapped up a class in the Grove one morning...



Does this mean you should work out in the rain?



No...but when you want it bad enough..we don't make excuses for our fitness...

Just because you're training for fat loss, better health or to look better naked - doesn't change the fact that DEADLINES are extremely effective tools.For someone interested in changing the way they look, goal setting with timelines is just as important.Let's stop putting it off RIGHT NOW!!

Let's set your next goal for the "End of summer" - that's Labor Day weekend (first weekend in September).

That's just a little more than 3 weeks from NOW!!!

TIPS FOR INDIRECT SMOKING ON A GRILL

Backyard Kitchen Feature
Many times the terms grilling and smoking are used inter-changeably when discussing the best methods to barbecue anything. There are, however, differences and that distinction is determined by whether your dinner receives direct or indirect contact with the cooking flames. According to national sales records of grills, the majority of homeowners have opted to equip their backyards with grills as opposed to indirect smokers, but many have both or even combinations. As flare-up experience and taste buds fire up, the backyard chef often seeks ways to maximize the effectiveness of their grill by trying to increase the lingering smokiness of the product.
Here are few smoking tips for grills as determined by the research folks at Cook’s Illustrated: Test yourself:
Question:
Which of the following methods is considered best for smoking on a grill?
A burning ring of charcoal in a donut-shaped configuration of coals.
A pile of burning charcoal separated on both ends of your grill.
A single pile of charcoal stacked at one end of your grill.
Easy Three-Cup Barbecue Sauce



Combine the following liquids:

1 cup water
½ cup cider vinegar
¼ cup canola oil
¼ cup Worchester sauce
¼ cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon honey
2 dashes of Tabasco Sauce

Add the following items:

1 onion, finely chopped
4 cloves of minced garlic
2 cups of ketchup
1/3 cup of dark brown packed sugar
(can substitute molasses)
1 tablespoon of chili powder
1 tablespoon of ground cumin
Optional: Chopped JalapeƱo pepper with seeds removed.

Directions:

•Pour contents into sauce pan and bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer about 15 minutes until solution thickens.
• Strain contents through fine mesh and adjust seasonings to taste: salt/pepper/etc.
• Use immediately or refrigerate up to a week.
