Fat Burning Foods ? OR Fat-Storing Foods ?

Eating for fat loss is simple, right? 

Eat fewer calories than you expend in a certain time period and you lose weight... Eat more calories than you expend and you gain weight... right?

Not so fast!

While it's true that your overall caloric intake vs your caloric expenditure is one of the most important aspects in whether you gain weight or lose weight... there are a lot of factors involved that complicate this, such as:

1. Calorie counting NEVER works!

Almost nobody, and I mean nobody, counts calories accurately.  Controlled studies indicate that the majority of people (between 75-90%) consistently (and massively) under-report their calories consumed when they are asked to track their calories.

I'm going to show you why calorie-counting is completely obsolete (as long as you follow one of the main principles that I'm going to teach you).

2. Appetite control and cravings destroy the ability for most people to ever meet a calorie goal

If your appetite and cravings are out of control, how can you control hunger and actually stay in your goal calorie range for fat loss?  The problem is that most people can't!

There is a trick that you can master that will automatically control your appetite and cravings. 

3. Hormone imbalances

If you're eating the wrong foods and don't even know it, this may be disrupting hormone balances in your body and leading you to overeat, decrease your metabolic rate, and other problems that can prevent you from burning off body fat effectively.

If you read below, you'll see how you can reverse these eating habits that are causing hormone imbalances, and turn your body into a fat-burning machine, like it was meant to be.

And don't get me started on the "Food Pyramid"...

The Food Pyramid is an absolute JOKE!

In fact, the food pyramid has mislead almost as many individuals down the depressing road of fat-gain as the crooked food companies and their deceptive food label claims.

So-Called "Health Foods" That Are Causing Your Body to Gain More Body Fat?

I can't tell you how many times I've walked into the kitchen of a client of mine that has hired me for nutritional counseling, and I'm shocked by what I see...

Almost every time, I see their kitchen cabinets and fridge LOADED with foods that they think are "healthy" (or have been deceived by clever food labels into believing are healthy), but in reality are fat-storing traps in disguise.

It's not uncommon to see foods such as:

whole grain breads
whole grain cereals
whole grain crackers
soymilk
tofu or "veggie burgers"
orange juice
apple juice
skim milk
margarine
pre-packaged "diet" dinners
gator-ade or other sport drinks
"protein bars"  (aka Special K - candy bars in disguise!)
diet ice cream or diet desserts
so-called "energy" drinks
low-fat foods
low-carb foods
soybean oil, corn oil, canola oil
etc, etc

I see this trend over and over again with almost every client when I first inspect their cabinets and the foods that they were buying that they thought were healthy. 

What they don't realize is that it's these exact foods that are sabotaging their fat loss efforts, increasing their cravings, throwing their hormones out of whack, and more.

We have been duped into believing that instant, fast, pre-made foods will somehow make us thin and healthy. If you check out your grocery store frozen food isle, you will often see overweight people purchasing what they think are ―diet dinners‖. Nothing could be further from the truth! Processed diet dinners are chock full of preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, processed flours, synthetic fillers, soy protein, and the worst kind of fats. These foods will cause inflammation, stimulate the insulin response--i.e., store fat, and do nothing for you nutritionally. What‘s more, you will GAIN weight from eating this kind of junk!

Did you know in  1997, each of us was consuming 122 pounds of flour, 105 pounds of sugar or other sweeteners, 20 pounds of fried potatoes, and 50 pounds of vegetable cooking oils. That's almost a pound of knowingly bad-for-you foods per day! And that doesn‘t count a whole lot of other junk food…but clearly, the reason many are overweight or obese today. The "HCG-diet" -- 3 reasons to NEVER do this

 It seems that so many people lately have been asking me about this so-called "HCG-diet" and whether it's safe or healthy to do.  The answer is a big fat NO!
One of my trusted colleagues and Nutritionist, Coach Josh, just wrote up an article on this same topic so I wanted to share it with you, so you don't go down the wrong road and think it's safe to try HCG.

In today’s article I’m going to EXPOSE the HCG-Diet. You can then decide for yourself whether or not you want to follow in the path of your coworker.

What Is The HCG Diet?

This diet was fairly popular in the 1950’s until it became clear that there was insufficient evidence to support using HCG for fatloss. As with most fad diets, the HCG Diet has resurfaced and makes some pretty outlandish claims. Many of the products declare that the diet will “reset your metabolism”, change “abnormal eating patterns” and result with a “loss of 1-2 pounds per day.”

HCG is a hormone produced in women by the placenta during pregnancy. HCG is sold as a prescription drug approved by the Food & Drug Administration for various medical conditions including the treatment of female infertility (but not weight-loss). The diet requires a daily injection of this hormone along with a scary obligation to eat a very low calorie diet of ONLY 500 CALORIES A DAY! Why Do People Lose So Fast? In short, people are actually losing twenty pounds and more per month because they are starving themselves! If you stop eating, you will likely drop weight quickly no matter what you are injecting into your body. It’s insane really... it will cost you hundreds of dollars a month and the real secret to this diet is... starvation. You don’t have to pay for that... you can starve yourself free of charge. =) (Which I don’t recommend.) The HCG label actually states, there “is no substantial evidence that it increases weight-loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or ‘normal’ distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets.” Is It Safe? No matter your size, that level of calorie restriction is severe and does not lack consequences. These include, but are not limited to, gallstone formation, irregular heartbeat, vitamin & mineral deficiency and electrolyte imbalance.

This means that the HCG diet is not only unhealthy, it’s hazardous. Keep in mind that following this diet will give you an increased risk of headaches, blood clots, restlessness and depression. In addition, the HCG can give you pregnancy-like symptoms, such as water retention, breast tenderness and swelling.

And finally, HCG can also cause a condition called OHSS, or ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, which is potentially life-threatening. In addition to the calorie restriction being unsafe, the HCG hormone is actually illegal for over the counter sale for any reason. In fact, it’s not approved for weight-loss even as a prescription.

The FDA is warning any consumer currently using HCG for fat-loss to stop taking it and to stop following the dieting instructions immediately. I recommend this too!

My suggestion? Stick to what we know works—eating natural, wholesome foods, healthy supplements and exercise—and don’t be fooled, misled or tempted by fad starvation diets. Sustainable, healthy fat loss takes a permanent change of your habits and lifestyle. So what about those pesky cravings that the HCG diet was suppose to end? It’s no secret that excess hunger and cravings are the #1 reported problem of all my readers. And let’s face it, no diet is ever going to help you lose body flab if you can’t first control your cravings. Anytime a person comes to me and says, “Isabel, I need to lose weight and fast. Will joining a gym help me achieve my goals?” I simply tell them that no two people are alike. It’s all about what works for you. There are a lot of good reasons to join a gym, but there are also some drawbacks.



Reasons You May Want to Join a Gym

■Motivation. Everyone at the gym is there for one reason—to exercise. Being around people who share the same objective can motivate you to dig your heels in and get your workouts done. If going to the gym will encourage you to exercise regularly, then I say go for it!

■No Distractions at Home. There is always something to do or someone who needs you at home. These distractions can easily take priority (in your mind) over exercising. When you do most of your workouts at the gym, the dishes, dinner, phone calls, laundry and anything else you “need” to do will just have to wait.

■Access to Exercise Equipment and Fitness Classes. You don’t need much exercise equipment to get a good workout. However, doing the same old exercise videos and running on the same old treadmill can bore you to pieces. When you opt to workout in a gym, you have access to tons of equipment and a variety of fitness classes, so you rarely get bored.

Reasons You May Not Want to Join a Gym

■You May Get Stuck in a Contract. Plenty of people join a gym and use their memberships religiously. Others start off with a boom and then fade away. If you are one of the faders and you sign a 12 month contract, you’ll be stuck paying for a year long membership that you never use. Basically, it will be a waste of money.

■Fees are Continuous. Most contracted gym membership fees are collected via automatic bank draft. If you lose your job or run into financial hardships, there is no way to stop the gym from pulling money out of your account until your contract expires. If your finances are really messed up, the money the gym takes out of your account can cause overdraft charges and other financial hardships.



■Overcrowding. Gyms are in the business of making money. The more members they have, the more money they make. These facilities can be pretty crowded during peak hours. If you hate crowds or are uncomfortable exercising around others, the gym atmosphere may not be for you.

■Germy Equipment. Sweaty bodies and dirty hands—it’s no secret that the exercise equipment and locker rooms at gyms are stomping grounds for germs. Anytime you come into contact with germy equipment, you become vulnerable to illnesses and infections. If you are a germaphobe or slack about hand washing, you may be better off exercising at home.

Some Ways to Combat Gym Drawbacks

While it’s not necessary to join a gym to lose weight, some people thrive in this type of setting. If you’re not sure if a gym is right for you, go to a nearby facility and ask for a free trial membership. This will give you a chance to use the facility for a couple of weeks to see if joining is something you really want to do.



If you feel like a gym membership is what you need to get off your hump and exercise, negotiate with the fitness club to save a little cash. Some gyms will waive their registration fees or offer as much as 30 percent off membership prices–all you gotta’ do is ask.



If you detest the idea of being trapped in a contract, ask for a month to month membership. Most gyms don’t advertise the month to month thing because it eats into their profits. With this type of membership, you simply pay as you go. When you get sick of going, you can quit without paying any additional fees.
