3 reasons you’re not losing fat

You already know that you can’t out train a bad diet. That’s why you need a recipe, a plan to dice up your abs so you’ll feel confident to be seen on the beach. And it’s MORE than just a workout plan.

If you just “workout”, you could actually increase your cortisol, which will force your body to store more fat. You don’t want that.

You see it all the time. People work their butts off (figuratively that is, because at the end of the day their flabby butt is still there). They train and wonder ‘why am I not getting lean?’

Let me tell you why…three reasons:

#1 Backward Body Composition

People just like you and I trade fat for muscle as we age. This tanks our metabolism because our muscle is metabolically active while fat is dead ugly weight.

Unfortunately, it’s easier to lose muscle than it is to lose fat. Our bodies PREFER to use lean muscle tissue for energy over our belly fat.

But with a strategic combination of high intensity interval training, strength training and a nutrition plan that works synergistically with these workouts, you can actually force your body to harness belly fat as energy buy putting your metabolism into Afterburn.

#2 Hormone Havoc

Fat storing hormones like cortisol wreak havoc with belly fat and in today’s high stress world this hormone is at an all time high. Hormones that can promote fat burning like growth hormone and testosterone (women should have a healthy level of testosterone as well) decline with age but can be naturally boosted with the right kind of exercise. (This does NOT include things like running on the treadmill that actually increase fat storing hormones like cortisol.)

#3 Poor Eating

No matter what your exercise plan, if you’re not backing it up with solid nutritionally dense food, your plan will fail. And when it comes to eating, failing to plan is planning to fail, especially when your diet is too restrictive.

That’s why my friend, Shawna K who is more ripped and in better shape than most 20-year olds (she’s 50!), included her Challenge Fat Loss Nutrition Tactics along with her Challenge Fat Loss program that uses a brand NEW M2A method.

Other diet plans are too restrictive and don’t allow any wiggle room. Now when you use a combination Shawna’s workouts that manipulate your hormones to promote fat loss and her nutrition tactics to speed up your metabolism, you’ll see rapid results, no matter your age – Shawna is living proof.

Her workouts are only 20 minutes long, which is why they work so well. They promote the “good” hormones, while reducing the fat-storing hormones like cortisol because the workouts are so short.

However, they STILL use a combination of high intensity interval training and strength training. How is this possible? It’s because she uses M2A, which is a new science-based approach that allows you to work out in only 20 minutes but still getting results as if you worked out for 60 minutes.

When you team up M2A (Muscle Metabolism Acceleration) along with her nutrition tactics, you’re in for a total body transformation.

But it won’t be easy…

This is a workout program that will challenge you every step of the way, but in progressive ways. Best of all Shawna is going to be there with you through every exercise, every set, and ever rep right there with you to motivate, coach and guild you along.

You’ll make small manageable changes to your eating plan and you’ll use the M2A system to build lean, athletic muscle and naturally increase fat burning hormones like GH and testosterone and reduce fat storing hormones like cortisol…

… in only 20 minutes per workout!

It’s scientifically based and proven. And this week, you can get all of Shawna’s M2A workouts and her Challenge Fat Loss Nutrition Tactics for half off.

What Is In Your Food

Happy Monday I hope you got an awesome weekend.... I just finished reading the results from everyone finishing week 2 of the Unwrap a new you in 8 weeks plan. 2 more 5lbs losers...and 3 people lost 3 more pounds...BOOM!!! People...at this rate how can they NOT unwrap a new body on Christmas day... I hope you are getting the results you are looking for, and if you are not...maybe it's time to take action. On to WHAT'S IN YOUR FOOD... I always tend to teach you about carbs, protein and fat...how much you should have...but I don't think I have touched on this subject enough What is actually in the food Garden burgers. Power bars. Protein brownies. Bottled water that makes you thin, young and smart. And we used to wonder what they put in Pop Rocks... These days it’s hard for even die-hard foodies to know what they’re eating or drinking. That’s because food has changed from something that didn’t need a modifier – if it walked, swam, flew or grew out of the ground, it was food – to something that stopped off at Mr. Burns’ nuclear plant on the way to your plate. Did you know that 70% of the Ground Beef in the USA has pink slime...and did you know that all of that pink slime is treated with AMMONIA?

Pink Slime - 70% of America's Beef is Treated with Ammonia

The #1 reason people FAIL to lose weight

Hey Everyone

Rafael Moret here from the South Florida Fitness Boot Camp program and I have a cool post for you

The #1 reason people FAIL to lose weight:

Let me ask you this:  If every day you stepped on the scale and saw a
lower number, and every week you looked in the mirror to see visually
noticeable results, would you continue doing what you are doing?

Let me answer that for you.  YES, you would.

It doesn't matter how "hard" what you're doing is, you'd still
continue to do it.

In fact, you'd probably work out even more and tighten up your diet
even more as a result of the RESULTS you're experiencing.

Results are motivating.  If fact, there's nothing more motivating.

Nothing.

And here's another reality:  If you're NOT experiencing results,
you will never continue to put in the hard work and effort
necessary to change your body.

Unfortunately, hard work and effort don't necessarily equate to
results.  In fact, there are a ton of people out there working
hard, and getting nowhere.

Why?  Because there's a ton of information out there that simply
does NOT work for fat loss, while still requiring a ton of hard work
and sacrifice.

For example, you could "diet" and choose the wrong foods and watch
your weight stand at a standstill.

You could perform hours of slow-go cardio every week only to watch
the scale read the same number week after week.

You could starve yourself, royally screw your metabolism, and even
GAIN weight over time as a result.

And then what happens?  You quit, that's what.

And I don't BLAME you.  Why would you ever continue to sacrifice
without being rewarded?

I wouldn't, and you shouldn't.

So take a good hard look at what you're doing and think about this:
What's fueling your workouts?  What's fueling your desire to eat
healthy and consume fewer calories?

If results aren't your fuel, you're going to give up and
quit...sooner rather than later.  Proof?  Let your car run out of
fuel and see what happens.

That's right, it doesn't go.

The one solitary thing that fuels your desire to "stay on the
wagon" is results.  And that's what this newsletter is here for:
to give you strategies and information that actually work, so you
can continue moving forward toward your goals, without wasting
your time.

Now, one of the most important things you can do to ensure your
"diet" isn't wasting your time is to learn exactly which foods to
eat to create a fat-burning metabolism.  Fortunately, my buddy Kyle
lists a bunch of the best fat-burning foods at the link below.
Yes, FOODS that actually help you burn fat.  Here they are:

Why Can't I lose weight

Hey South Florida Bootcampers

I have a Good one for you today:

If you can't lose weight, there are specific reasons for this that you have more control over than you think.

You're not strength training. Often, people who can't lose weight don't do any strength training. The more lean, sleek muscle you have, the faster your resting metabolism, because muscle is the body's most metabolically active tissue.

You're not exercising in a waythat forces the body to adapt. The adaptive response requires energy; it raises your body's energy needs. The body will then dig into stored fat for this energy.
If you've been strength training and the weight hasn't been coming off, it's because you're not doing much more than merely going through the motions.
There's the story of a heavy-set woman who was doing lat pull-downs with 70 pounds. A trainer waltzed over, knelt beside her, said "Hi" with a smile, then moved the machine's pin to the 100 pound mark.
The woman's mouth fell open, but the trainer said, "You're going to do 100 pounds for your next set, and eight times."
"I can't do 100 pounds!"
"Oh yes you can. Trust me. You're going to complete eight reps."
The woman said her goal was to lose weight, but nothing was happening despite regular workouts. She began pulling down the bar, and it wasn't easy. She had to fight her way to the eighth rep, but she completed eight full repetitions.
The trainer said, "Now that's the way every set should feel. Apply this effort level to all of your sets for every exercise. You won't lose weight if you keep doing something your body is efficient at. You must do something that forces you to struggle. Struggling begets weight loss."
A month later the woman reported having dropped an entire dress size.
Moral of this true story: Exercises that require struggling will burn fat and cause weight loss, especially when coupled with sensible eating.

You eat mindlessly. Every little sample and nugget counts. One tablespoon of gravy is 100 calories. A "little bit here and there" adds up. Avoid eating due to cues not related to sustenance, such as watching TV.
You drink diet sodas. Artificial sweeteners often trigger hunger.
Too many processed foods. These trigger hunger, and too much white sugar and high fructose corn syrup will get stored as fat.
You skip breakfast. Breakfast, even if it's only a cup of yogurt, tends to tame later-day appetite. Skipping it can make you feel entitled to overeat later on.
You don't do cardio. It's amazing how many people, who don't do cardio, wonder why they can't lose weight. Taking care of two preschoolers or pulling weeds does not replace structured cardiovascular exercise.

You hold onto the treadmill. This has got to be one of the most weight-loss-sabotaging habits out there. The body has absolutely no reason to burn more fat in response to make-believe walking.
Instead, pump the arms and get winded to force your body to adapt. Remember, the body won't adapt to something that it's very efficient at doing (e.g., walking while holding onto something for support).

You don't do HIIT: highintensity interval training. This form of cardio blasts fat.

Inconsistent exercise habits. Weight loss won't go hard and deep if your workouts are not consistent. Even if you're doing everything right in the gym, consistency is still very important.

Poor sleeping habits. Research shows that under six hours of sleep and over nine are strongly linked to excess body fat.

Too much daytime napping. Excessive inertia means a slowed metabolism to accommodate it.
Before you blame your parents and grandparents for having "the wrong genes," review your lifestyle habits to find out what can be modified to promote fat loss. For more details on changes you can make to boost weight loss, call us today.

Lap-Band,oBand, Gastric bypass vs. Bootcamp

Years ago Lap-Band surgery cost roughly around $25,000. Today you can have surgery for $4000 – $7000.
But really
The lap band surgery may cost anywhere from $17,000 to $30,000. The cost includes pre-op tests, surgeon fees, hospital charges. There may be additional charges added for follow up care.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website presented a study which shows the estimated cost of obesity, including direct (preventative, diagnostic and treatment services related to obesity) and indirect (income lost, decreased productivity, restricted activity, absenteeism and bed days) medical costs. In 1998 alone, total adult medical expenditures attributable to overweight and obesity was estimated at $51.5 billion, including out-of-pocket medical expenses, private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare. According to a more recent study (by RTI International, the Agency for Healthcare Research, and Quality and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention) the annual medical expenditures attributable to obesity have increased significantly over the past decade to approximately $147 billion per year. An obese person spends approximately $1,429 in medical costs - 42% more than a person of normal weight.
According to the June 2005 online version of the Journal Health Affairs, the cost of obesity can add up to $15,568 a year, including medications and food.   WEIGHT-RELATED COSTS   This includes: Medical/Drug costs $5,965 Out of Pocket Healthcare Expenses $2,182 Employment Inactivity Costs $900 Commercial Weight loss Programs $600 Prescription Co-Pays $600 Grocery and Dining Costs $5,321
Total $15,568
The cost of gastric bypass ranges from $18,000 to $35,000, depending on where you live. The good news is that, increasingly, insurance providers (including Medicare and, in some states, Medicaid) are offering gastric bypass surgery insurance that covers all or part of the gastric bypass cost if your doctor establishes medical necessity and if you meet the National Institutes of Health insurance requirements.

Gastric Bypass Surgery Cost Breakdown

The cost of gastric bypass surgery comprises:
  • Anesthesia fees
  • The hospital facility fee
  • The surgeon's fee
  • Pre-op lab and X-ray fees
  • Some period of time after surgery for post-operative care (typically 90 days)
Factors not included in the cost of gastric bypass:
  • Post-surgery behavior, exercise and diet counseling, including the cost of vitamins and supplements.
LAP-BAND®
  • low risk
  • minimally invasive
  • reversible
  • adjustable
  • no hospitalization
  • no cutting
  • no malabsorption
  • no unhealthy muscle wasting
  • no dumping
  • no diarrhea
  • no osteoporosis
REALLY? (This is my own input)<<<<< BYPASS
  • high risk
  • invasive
  • irreversible
  • permanent, non adjustable changes in anatomy
  • 2-3 days hospitalization
  • intestines cut and rearranged
  • chronic malabsorption
  • unhealthy muscle wasting
  • dumping
  • diarrhea
  • osteoporosis
(this is on their own site)
While surgeons have reported that gastric bypass yields a faster pace of weight loss in the first year, the long-term results of gastric bypass and LAP-BAND® are practically the same. The real difference is in the shorter-term results. Whereas gastric bypass is far more invasive and requires a longer recovery time, LAP-BAND® is the minimally invasive, safer and more controlled surgical option.
Now after eading all that
Let me ask you some logical questions..
Which one of these helps with your cholesterol?
Which one of these helps with your diabetes ?
Which one of these helps with your stess and hyper tention?
Which one of these will help you get stronger?
Less winded when you go up the stairs?
Which one shows you how to eat? What to eat? When to eat? To Support Your Goal
Which one will give you long, lean, lean muscle tissue?
Why do I push Boot Camp or my program?
Because we do give you all those things!!
Exercise, specially the way we do it, will help with:
It can lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, dementia, osteoporosis, gallstones, diverticulitis, falls, erectile dysfunction, peripheral vascular disease and 12 kinds of cancer.
But what if you already have one of these conditions? Or an ailment like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, congestive heart failure or osteoarthritis? How can you exercise if you’re always tired or in pain or have trouble breathing? Can exercise really help?

Can exercise really help?
You bet it can. Marilyn Moffat, a professor of physical therapy at New York University and co-author with Carole B. Lewis of “Age-Defying Fitness” (Peachtree, 2006), conducts workshops for physical therapists around the country and abroad, demonstrating how people with chronic health problems can improve their health and quality of life by learning how to exercise safely. “The data show that regular moderate exercise increases your ability to battle the effects of disease,” Dr. Moffat said in an interview. “It has a positive effect on both physical and mental well-being. The goal is to do as much physical activity as your body lets you do, and rest when you need to rest.”
NO ONE CAN DENY THIS!!!

The Truth About Bodyweight Cardio

By Craig Ballantyne

Bodyweight Cardio<<

The truth about Bodyweight Cardio is that it has the worst
name in Turbulence Training history.

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I put that label on it,
but I'm not 3 workouts deep and pretty much stuck with it.

A better physiological description would be, "Bodyweight
Interval Training" or "Bodyweight Metabolic Conditioning".

I call bodyweight circuits a hybrid of strength and interval
training. The bodyweight exercises used in these particular
workouts are not so intense that they will cause you to gain
muscle, but neither would you be able to work as hard as you
can during sprint training.

You won't burn as many calories in 30 minutes of bodyweight cardio
as you would in 30 minutes of running at a fast pace. Truth
be told, only kettlebell training has the ability to burn as
many calories within a workout as running at a hard pace.

Think about this...each pushup you do must burn less than 1/3
of a calorie. After all, if you do 100 pushups in 3 minutes
(that's my score in the Martin Rooney 3-minute pushup test),
there's no way that I'm burning more than 15 calories per
minute (not when running at a fast pace only burns 16-20
calories per minute).

So in terms of "within workout" calorie burning, bodyweight
cardio does not beat regular cardio.

That said, because bodyweight cardio is a combination of resistance
training and interval training, you should get greater
post-workout calorie and fat burning benefits.

And knowing what we know today about metabolic resistance training,
and based on Alwyn Cosgrove's description of the two types of
MRT that he gave us, it is easy to place bodyweight cardio in
the metabolic conditioning category (higher reps, less
soreness from a session, sustained high heart rate).

As Alwyn said, "Your body doesn't really know what it's doing, all
it knows is that it gets your heart rate up."

So the key and challenge is to create bodyweight cardio workouts
that put the greatest demand on our cardiovascular systems
(to burn a lot of calories within the workout) while taking
advantage of the depletion results from the interval-like and
resistance properties of bodyweight training to increase the
between-session calorie burn (like we get from regular weight
training).

To do this, we should use the non-competing exercise rule we
use in our TT workouts. If creating a circuit, going from a
lower-body exercise to an upper-body exercise is most appropriate,
as is focusing on as many single-leg exercises as possible.

The "Big 5" circuit approach works well for this:
Squat, Push, Pull, Single-Leg, Total Body Ab, as does the Big 6
(addition of a jump exercise at the start) and Big 7 (further
addition of a sprint type exercise at the end of the circuit).

Bottom Line: Bodyweight cardio will help you get that lean,
athletic look, even when you don't have access to any equipment.

You won't build a lot of muscle, but you can burn quite a few
calories and lose body fat almost as fast as with any other
TT workout (of course, there will always be people who respond
to this workout at extreme levels - and that's why you need
to experiment and find out what works best for you).

Do these 10 fitness trends work?

"A goal is a dream with a deadline."
Napoleon Hill

Check these out:

1.Biotape

Bizarre Health Fads

Building on our last example of health fads gone wrong is Biotape, the pain-relieving tape disseminated by Smart Inventions Inc. Made of a space-age conductive Mylar that connects broken circuits that cause pain, Biotape and its makers fell flat when confronted by the Federal Trade Commission, having to settle for $2.5 million in consumer refunds. The product’s website is still functional, but can now only claim that the tape connects the broken chi in all of us. Who knew that our chi was broken?

2.Q-Ray Ionized Bracelet

Bizarre Health Fads

You’ve probably seen the infomercials on the Q-Ray Ionized Bracelet, a breakthrough in science that was first marketed as a pain-relief product, but then went on to promise those who wear it enhanced performance, balance and vitality. How did it achieve its magical effects? Ionization, of course. Not surprisingly, when tested, the Q-Ray was not ionized at all and its makers were court-ordered to turn over $16 million in profits as refunds to consumers due to false advertising.

3.Cow Urine

Bizarre Health Fads

For our next bizarre health fad, we turn our attention to a South Asian nation of one billion -- India. The cow is a sacred creature in India, to such an extent that India's biggest and oldest Hindu nationalist group, the Cow Protection Department of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), hopes to turn cow urine into the next soft-drink craze. The RSS has been steadily building hype for cow urine over the past few years, promoting the liquid as a cure for a range of ailments including liver disease and, of course, cancer. By the end of this year, RSS hopes to release its "cow cola" to the masses, assuring the public that it will taste great. The taste, however, may be of little concern, considering that imposters have already begun selling knock-off buffalo urine as the real thing.

4.Bee Venom

Bizarre Health Fads

What better way to find out if you are fatally allergic to bee venom than by deliberately letting yourself get stung in the name of health? Welcome to the practice of bee venom therapy, whereby therapists apply bee venom to specific points on the surface of the body to cure or reduce symptoms of arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis, herpes, and even breast cancer. Although the practice is rare in the Western world, bee venom therapy is still abuzz in China, being offered as one of an exhaustive list of folk remedies at any of the 3,000 or so traditional folk medicine clinics across the country. While apitherapy (the medicinal use of bee products, such as honey) has some medicinal usefulness, the claims for bee venom therapy are just too far-fetched to believe

5. Hula-Hooping With Weights

This is one of the latest fitness fads and entails hula-hooping, a craze of the 1950s, with weighted hoops to trim the stomach muscles. While this fad may seem a bit crazy, popular singer Beyonce says that she does it to stay slim. Doctors have weighed in on this fad and say that it is an effective form of cardiovascular exercise and can help with weight loss, but that there is no need to use weighted hula hoops as they can cause back injuries. You can get the same results from a regular hula-hoop.

6. Strippercize

This form of exercise is touted by movie star Kate Hudson, who states that not only is it useful in the bedroom but it can help women stay thin. Doctors disagree and suggest that anything that involves wearing 7-inch spike heels is not good for any woman, especially when exercising. They add that doing so can actually cause harm to your ankles and feet. However, if you wear proper attire this type of exercise can strengthen your core and provide cardiovascular benefits. Just make sure you go for sneakers instead of stilettos!

7. Bodyblade

The Bodyblade approach involves lifting a bar over your head and shaking to exercise your trunk muscles. Doctors say that this exercise can be helpful for physical therapy, but it appears to be another fad that does not have clear fitness benefits. However, they also say that there is no harm in performing this exercise.

8. Bikram yoga

Please note that this does not refer to yoga in general - but specifically Bikram yoga. I think yoga in general has many benefits when used in the right way and in the right context.

Bikram yoga was 'invented' by a guy in the 1970's, he had the bright idea of performing yoga in a room that is heated to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. It doesn't bother me that the founder of it lives in Beverly Hills and has 40 Rolls Royces (according to this article in The Times). And even the spurious health and fitness claims don't bother me that much (several Bikram yoga websites claim that it makes your body burn fat more effectively and redistributes fat in the muscle structure - hmm, so if I sit in a sauna I'll burn more fat). What mainly bothers me is a bunch of guys wearing Speedo's. Sorry, but I don't want some dude in a pair of swimming trunks doing a down dog in my face and spraying sweat all over me!

The only time you should be wearing speedo's is if you are in a swimming pool in an actual swimming competition

Okay, I lied the spurious health claims do bother me. As does standing on someones back while they are in full spinal flexion, McGill is somewhere in Canada, probably in his spinal lab shedding a tear. Bottom line, I don't think overstretching ligaments and tendons in a hot environment is a good idea.

9.Functional training that is not functional

Somewhere along the line functional training jumped the shark. It metamorphosed into people standing on various objects filled with air while doing a rotational lunge matrix. I was hoping this stuff was dead, but only a couple of weeks ago I saw a guy trying to stand on a swiss ball

Functional Clown Training

If something is functional, what is it functional for. Unless you spend your life standing on bags filled with air then there is very little functional carry over.

Functional should relate to the task at hand. For example, with some elderly GP referral clients, things like squats from a bench (getting out of a chair), step ups (for walking up stairs) and suitcase deadlifts (for picking up shopping) are all functional to their needs.

Funtional Training is Not Doing Circus evercise with no real world Purpose.

10. The Power Plate

According to the Power Plate website, this piece of equipment is backed by 40 years of research that shows “vibration training enables users to achieve a higher level of fitness.” We’re also told, “Far better results are achieved than with conventional training methods in just 10 minutes, 3 times a week.”

Plain and simple, don’t buy the hype. Don’t buy the celebrity endorsements or the testimonials that come from the people who stood on this vibrating platform once for ten minutes and said they felt sore or felt better.

Have you ever felt sore after sleeping on an uncomfortable bed? Well, this kind of soreness isn’t indicative of any muscle building properties offered by uncomfortable cots, and is the same kind of soreness you’d feel after standing on a vibrating platform for ten or fifteen minutes.

If standing on a vibrating platform offered real health benefits, subway riders would be the healthiest lot on the planet. If vibrations were the key to being fit, you’d never see a fat jackhammer operator.

I could waste hours discussing this fallacious nonsense. But I’ll keep it as short as possible.

As Madonna performs in London, the word is the aging pop star has kept her fabulous figure fabulous by using a faddish gadget known as the Power Plate. The Power Plate is a vibrating platform you stand on while assuming various positions, which – according to testimonials and marketing materials – can strengthen and tone and all that good stuff in just ten minutes a day, three days per week.

By the way, Madonna is in phenomenal shape because she's spent the past 20+ years working at it, not because she uses the Power Plate

Research Shows You May NEVER Lose Weight?

Hi Everyone,

Are You Hardwired To Never Lose Weight?

There is some pretty solid research that shows some people may be hard wired to never lose weight or they lose it and gain it back.

Don't worry this isn't a permanent thing. You are not doomed if this is you.

David Kessler, M. D. and author of "The End of Overeating" and his researchers have looked into why some people weight cycle.

What they found was that we all have reward circuits in our brains and that some individuals are "conditioned hypereaters". Those that he calls "conditioned hypereaters" excessively activate these reward circuits just from smelling food.

Kessler estimates that half of obese people and around 30 percent of overweight individuals are conditioned hypereaters.

The research and evidence also shows that this action or hard wired mechanism is partially learned and can re-wired through conditioning much like how it occurred in the first place.

Since emotional triggers can play a important role in what we eat and don't eat we have to recognize this and focus on conditioning our emotions to have a more positive outcome.

This is part of what we call behavior modification or behavior change. It isn't always just about dieting or restricting calories and then all is well. Many times weight gain is emotionally driven so this means you have to manipulate those emotions to achieve the outcome you desire.

For example if you mess up and eat something you shouldn't have it isn't the end of the world and you haven't ruined your progress. Instead of getting frustrated just move on to the next stage of your day and focus on the positive. You will make a better decision at the next feeding opportunity.

The focus of behavior modification is controlling your emotions instead of them controlling you, which leads to negative thoughts and negative behaviors.

Here is a little exercise for you.

Write down how you feel when you are eating: are you happy, stressed, sad, etc.

Why are you eating?: Is it time to eat, did you skip a meal, etc.

Why did you choose the foods you are eating?

Keep track of this at every meal for 3-5 days and at the end of each day look at what you ate for the day, the quantities and then look at the emotions you wrote down next to that meal.

Is there a correlation? Did you choose unhealthy foods when you were stressed? Did you eat too many calories because you were frustrated about something?

Start to learn about your emotions and what they cause you to do and then you can focus on how to control them.

Hi Everyone...

Wow the last few days..well out of control is all I will say

I've been talking to some people about how they take a day off and then 2 and 3 and before you know it...it's been 3 weeks..

Listen things will always come up...life is always changing...But I tell you what, don;t bail on your workouts when you dont really need to..Sure things happen, but if you skip Monday because you were tired, and then something happens on Wed..I'm sure by Friday you are thinking you will start on Monday...

DON"T Do that..specially you Bootcampers...45 minutes is all we need. and I can guarantee 1 FULL BODY workout at camp with us is better than Not doing anything..

So just a quick weekend recap..

I put out a Portion Control guide, on how you can measure food portions when you are not sure what they look like.

Here is the link for it (click it and it will open up + there is a cool offer on the bottom of it)

Last before today Fit Tip:

The muddy buddy race!! We are training for this starting tomorrow..it's a 6 Mile run and cycle with obstacles in November..more details will come.

Ok..Here is my tip..Don't argue with Science and Facts just because you think you tried something 1 day or for 1 week and you dint think it worked for you...(sorry if tht hurts your feelings)

1. Metabolic Resistance Training

Basically we’re using resistance training as the cornerstone of our fat loss programming. Our goal is to work every muscle group hard, frequently, and with an intensity that creates a massive “metabolic disturbance” or “afterburn” that leaves the metabolism elevated for several hours post-workout.

A couple of studies to support this:

Schuenke MD, Mikat RP, McBride JM.

Effect of an acute period of resistance exercise on excess post-exercise oxygen consumption: implications for body mass management.
Eur J Appl Physiol. 2002 Mar;86(5):411-7. Epub 2002 Jan 29.

This study used a circuit training protocol of 12 sets in 31 minutes. EPOC was elevated significantly for 38 hours post-workout.

Thirty-eight hours is a pretty significant timeframe for metabolism to be elevated. If you trained at 9AM until 10AM on Monday morning, you’re still burning more calories (without training) at midnight on Tuesday.

Can we compound this with additional training within that 38 hours? No research has been done, but I have enough case studies to believe that you can.

Another:

Kramer, Volek et al.

Influence of exercise training on physiological and performance changes with weight loss in men.

Med. Sci. Sports Exerc., Vol. 31, No. 9, pp. 1320-1329, 1999.

Overweight subjects were assigned to three groups: diet-only, diet plus aerobics, diet plus aerobics plus weights. The diet group lost 14.6 pounds of fat in 12 weeks. The aerobic group lost only one more pound (15.6 pounds) than the diet group (training was three times a week starting at 30 minutes and progressing to 50 minutes over the 12 weeks).

The weight training group lost 21.1 pounds of fat (44% and 35% more than diet and aerobic only groups respectively). Basically, the addition of aerobic training didn’t result in any real world significant fat loss over dieting alone.

High Intensity Anaerobic Interval Training

The second key “ingredient” in fat loss programming is high intensity interval training (HIIT). I think readers of T-Nation will be well aware of the benefits of interval work. It burns more calories than steady state and elevates metabolism significantly more than other forms of cardio. The downside is that it flat-out sucks to do it!

The landmark study in interval training was from Tremblay:

Tremblay A, Simoneau JA, Bouchard C.

Impact of exercise intensity on body fatness and skeletal muscle metabolism.
Metabolism. 1994 Jul;43(7):814-8

This study pitted 20 weeks of endurance training against 15 weeks of interval training:

Energy cost of endurance training = 28661 calories.
Energy cost of interval training = 13614 calories (less than half)

The interval training group showed a nine times greater loss in subcutaneous fat than the endurance group (when corrected for energy cost).

Read that again. Calorie for calorie, the interval training group lost nine times more fat overall. Why? Maybe it’s EPOC, an upregulation of fat burning enzyme activity, or straight up G-Flux. I don’t care. I’m a real world guy. If the interval training group had lost the same fat as the endurance group, we’d get the same results in less time. That means interval training is a better tool in your fat loss arsenal.

Now...if your training like this (yes this is what we do at Bootcamp) then you need to take a really good look at what you are eating if you are not seeing results..now Notice how I said results...not results you want...why because sometimes we for get how long it took you to get to that point and then you want it to change like yesterday...

Workout hard, eat right and enjoy the way it feels!
